Hayes Window Restoration is AMAZING! The quality of the Hayes work and the impeccable customer service is unmatched by anyone I have worked with before. Their craftsmanship in their work is beyond anything I have experienced. Every person who came into my home was so knowledgeable, kind, and respectful. They beat their timeline and communicated throughout the process. I would work with them again and again without blinking an eye. If you have a chance to work with them you are blessed!
We wanted to maintain the integrity of the home.
Supreme attention to detail by good folks who know windows.
We've used Hayes Window Restoration before and they're just incredible. We had quite a few windows in great shape that needed weatherstripping, and they not only did the job swiftly, they spent a good deal of time cleaning up (this is no small favor--lots of even good repair people leave the house a disaster.) We actually have two new windows in this old house [...], and we're getting them replaced. Two vendors of new windows came by to give us bids, and both said they work with, and recommend, Hayes when they encounter old windows.

We love everything about Hayes and are sure you will too.
We cannot recommend Hayes highly enough! They restored our 1880s windows and they are truly like new. Our restored windows now operate as well as new Marvin windows we have elsewhere in the house (better even!). And it is incredibly special to have preserved the original glass and detailed wood work, and brought back to life the original brass hardware which was buried under coats and coats and coats of paint. We planned to restore just eight windows in our house and in the end did twice as many - we are so glad we did.

Always nice to see a team that gets along well and enjoys what they do.
Great work, great team! Very professional and down to earth all the way through the process. Everyone patiently answered my dumb questions along the way, and eventually I ended up with 8 functioning original double-hung windows, four of which Hayes was also able to restore the top window's functionality as well (the other four were not candidates). The spring bronze and locks look great and seal really well, and I am happy that I went this route instead of installing brand-new windows.

Preserve the Beauty and Historic Integrity of Your Windows
Please Note: We only work on older homes, typically built prior to 1950.
SASH CORD REPAIR
Are your sash cords broken, frayed, or painted? Sash cords connect your window sash to cast iron weights hidden in the window jamb, effectively offsetting the weight of your windows to help them open and close with ease.
Working sash cords are vital to your double-hung window counterbalance system. We replace old and broken sash cords with new restoration-grade cord to restore the original counterbalance system of your windows, resulting in windows that are once again easy to open and close.
WEATHERSTRIPPING
We use a combination of spring bronze weatherstripping and bulb seal weatherstripping to establish a draft-tight fit for your operable window sashes. Our weatherstripping approach has been independently tested and shown to reduce drafts by nearly 90%.
Already have weatherstripping? We tune and realign many original types of weatherstripping to help it perform better, to keep this original material in service and out of the landfill, and to keep your project costs in check.
WINDOW TUNE-UP
One of the biggest enemies of historic windows is paint. Whether it is one really bad paint job or a number of decent paint jobs that pile up, paint gets into crevices and jambs where it causes friction, binding, and in many cases complete seizing up of an otherwise operable window sash.
Our technicians free windows of paint and other obstructions to regain full and smooth operation of your windows. One of our favorite tune-up tasks is to free upper sashes in order to regain the original ventilation objective of double-hung windows: to have warm air rise in a room and ventilate out the top of the window.
SPOT GLAZING & PAINTING
Is your original window putty cracked and flaking? Also called “window glazing,” it seals glass to the wood sash, shedding water and blocking drafts. Good putty has elasticity to maintain the seal through seasonal wood movement.
Over time, it becomes brittle and needs replacing, like paint. We remove failing putty and replace it with new oil-based putty, sealed with two coats of high-quality paint.
Please Note: On-site painting usually does not include full window repaints.
GLASS REPAIR
Do you have cracked panes in your windows? Historic glass, often called wavy or period glass, is a key feature of original windows and adds unique character. We work to preserve this by offering various repair options for broken panes.
Smaller panes can often be replaced on-site, while larger panes are carefully removed and repaired in our shop. We use traditional methods, avoiding caulk or sealants that can lead to rot and other issues. Our services include new glass, safety glass, salvaged historic glass, replica historic glass, bent and curved glass for unique shapes, and stained glass repair and restoration.
EXTERIOR TRIM
Despite its qualities of rot resistance, old growth wood that is left in long-term exterior exposure will decay over time–especially when failing paint coatings are not addressed or when inadequate wood is used for small repairs.
We offer complete window trim replacement using mature growth white pine, sustainably sourced from a family-run operation in Wisconsin. Historically accurate trim and brick mold profiles are milled on-site to match your existing windows. We offer trim painting services and reinstallation of storm windows upon completion of trim replacement.
